In what year was Peter Jackson appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit?

The story behind the answer

Peter Jackson was appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2010.

The honour came in the 2010 New Year Honours, when Jackson was promoted from Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit to Knight Companion. The distinction recognised his services to film and gave him the title commonly rendered as “Sir Peter Jackson.”

The honours announcement was made at the end of 2009, but the relevant honour is officially part of the 2010 New Year Honours. His investiture ceremony took place at Premier House in Wellington on 28 April 2010, conducted by Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand.

The earlier date of 2002 is easy to confuse with the knighthood: that year Jackson was appointed a Companion of the same order. He later received another major New Zealand distinction in 2012, when he became an Additional Member of the Order of New Zealand, the country’s highest civilian honour.
