What is the name of the inn in Hobbiton in The Lord of the Rings?
Answer
The Green Dragon
Answer
The Green Dragon
The inn in Hobbiton in The Lord of the Rings is the Green Dragon. It is a welcoming Shire pub where Hobbits gather for conversation, food and ale.
In Tolkien’s geography, the Green Dragon is actually located in Bywater, close to Hobbiton, rather than at the center of Hobbiton itself. Its convenient position makes it a natural meeting place for residents of both villages. The inn also appears in the wider story of Middle-earth: Bilbo and Thorin’s company use it as a rendezvous point before departing on the quest to Erebor.
The Green Dragon is easy to confuse with the Prancing Pony, but that inn is in Bree and is where Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin meet Aragorn. The Ivy Bush is another Shire pub mentioned in the books, while the Golden Perch is located elsewhere in the Shire. Peter Jackson’s films helped make the Green Dragon one of the most recognizable Hobbiton locations, and a full replica now operates at the Hobbiton Movie Set in New Zealand.
