What is the name of the inn in Bree?
Answer
The Prancing Pony
Answer
The Prancing Pony
The inn in Bree is called The Prancing Pony. It stands in the centre of Bree, at the foot of Bree-hill, where the Great East Road meets the Greenway.
Run by Barliman Butterbur, the inn provides food, drink, and rooms for travellers. Men, Hobbits, and Dwarves all use it, making the Prancing Pony one of the few places in Middle-earth where different peoples regularly meet. Its location makes it an important stopping point between the Shire and the wider lands of Eriador.
Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin stay there on their journey to Rivendell. Frodo’s accidental use of the One Ring alerts spies to his presence, and Aragorn—then calling himself Strider—meets the Hobbits there.
The Golden Perch is another famous inn in Middle-earth, located in Stock. The Green Dragon is in Bywater, in the Shire, while The Ivy Bush is another Shire tavern. None is the Bree inn connected with Frodo’s first meeting with Strider.
