What is the name of the hybrid dinosaur in Jurassic World?

The story behind the answer

The hybrid dinosaur in Jurassic World is the Indominus rex. It is a fictional transgenic theropod created by Dr. Henry Wu for the Jurassic World theme park.

The Indominus was engineered from a base Tyrannosaurus rex genome combined with DNA from animals including Velociraptor, cuttlefish, and tree frog. Additional promotional material lists theropods such as Carnotaurus, Giganotosaurus, Majungasaurus, and Rugops. These genetic additions explain abilities such as camouflage and unusual intelligence.

The name combines the Latin words “indomitus,” meaning untamable, and “rex,” meaning king. It is often confused with the Indoraptor, another hybrid introduced in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The Indominus is the white hybrid and principal antagonist of Jurassic World; the darker, more weapon-like Indoraptor belongs to the sequel.
