Indominus rex is the hybrid dinosaur created as the main threat in Jurassic World.
The fictional animal is engineered by combining genetic material from several species. Jurassic World’s scientists create it because the park’s management believes visitors demand dinosaurs that are larger, more dangerous, and more spectacular than familiar species.
Indominus rex escapes from its enclosure after using camouflage and thermal concealment to avoid detection. Its intelligence, aggression, and ability to manipulate park staff make containment especially difficult. The escape drives the film’s central conflict and causes widespread destruction on Isla Nublar.
Indominus rex is distinct from the Indoraptor, the hybrid antagonist of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It is also different from Scorpios rex, a hybrid introduced in the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. These names are fictional taxonomic labels created for the franchise rather than recognized scientific species.
