What is the name of the horse in Disney's Cinderella?

The story behind the answer

The horse in Disney’s Cinderella is named Major.

Major belongs to Cinderella’s household and is her loyal gray horse. He is not simply a background animal: during the Fairy Godmother’s transformation, Major is changed into a white-haired coachman so he can help convey Cinderella to the royal ball.

A common mix-up is confusing Major with the horses created from mice. Jaq, Gus, and two other mice are transformed into white horses to pull the pumpkin carriage, while Major receives a different transformation and becomes the coachman. The carriage team therefore consists of enchanted mice, not Cinderella’s original horse.

Cinderella was released in 1950 and was based on Charles Perrault’s 1697 fairy tale. Disney expanded the story with memorable animal characters and magical transformations, helping make Major part of the film’s supporting cast.
