What is the name of the hobbit’s home in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit?

The story behind the answer

The hobbit’s home in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit is called Bag End.

Bag End is a comfortable underground smial in Hobbiton, a settlement in the Shire. Bilbo Baggins lives there at the beginning of The Hobbit, and Frodo Baggins later inherits the home after Bilbo leaves the Shire.

The name is a literal description of the property’s location at the end of a lane. Tolkien based many details of Hobbit life on rural English landscapes and customs, giving Bag End a deliberately domestic contrast with the dangers beyond the Shire.

Hobbiton is the village where Bag End is located, not the house itself. Crickhollow is another house associated with Frodo, while Bucklebury is connected with the Brandybuck family.
