What is the name of the government lab in "Stranger Things"?

The story behind the answer

The government laboratory in "Stranger Things" is called Hawkins National Laboratory.

Usually known as Hawkins Lab, the facility is located near the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. It presents itself as a United States Department of Energy research site, but its secret work involves psychic abilities, interdimensional phenomena, and experiments on children.

Dr. Martin Brenner oversees much of the laboratory’s early research. Eleven, whose birth name is Jane Ives, is raised and tested there as part of a program designed to develop and study her psychokinetic and extrasensory abilities. The experiments connect her to other test subjects, including Kali, known as Eight.

The laboratory becomes central to the first season when Eleven escapes and the facility’s experiments are linked to the opening of a gateway to the Upside Down. It is also the site of the search for Will Byers and the government’s attempts to contain the supernatural threat. Viewers sometimes call it simply Hawkins Lab, but Hawkins National Laboratory is the facility’s full name.
