What is the name of the golf course that has hosted the most U.S. Opens?
Answer
Oakmont Country Club
Answer
Oakmont Country Club
Oakmont Country Club has hosted the U.S. Open more often than any other golf course. The Pennsylvania club staged its first U.S. Open in 1927 and reached 10 hostings when the championship returned in 2025.
Oakmont was founded by Henry Clay Fownes, who opened the course in 1903 near Pittsburgh. It is regarded as one of the most demanding venues in championship golf because of its fast greens, narrow fairways, deep rough, and severe bunkers. Its most famous hazard is the Church Pew bunker, a long sand trap divided by rows of grass between the third and fourth fairways.
The course has produced several memorable U.S. Open moments. Jack Nicklaus won his first professional tournament there in 1962, defeating Arnold Palmer in a playoff. In 1973, Johnny Miller shot a final-round 63 at Oakmont, then the lowest score ever recorded in a major championship. Oakmont has also hosted other USGA events, but its record specifically concerns U.S. Open championships.
