Brachiosaurus is the giant herbivorous dinosaur that amazes visitors during Jurassic Park’s first major dinosaur reveal.
In the 1993 film, Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler and the children see a towering long-necked dinosaur feeding in the park. The scene establishes that Hammond’s scientists have succeeded in creating living dinosaurs and gives the characters their first extended wonder-filled encounter.
Brachiosaurus was a real sauropod dinosaur known for its long neck, high shoulders and elevated browsing posture. The film uses its immense size to contrast with the smaller animals and predators that appear later.
The franchise’s portrayal is cinematic and not a complete guide to the animal’s biology. The dinosaur should also be distinguished from the similarly long-necked Apatosaurus, which appears in later Jurassic World stories.
