Prix du Jockey Club
Answer
Prix du Jockey Club
The Prix du Jockey Club is the French classic race run at Chantilly for three-year-old horses.
Often called the French Derby, the Prix du Jockey Club is contested by three-year-old colts and fillies, although fillies usually target the Prix de Diane instead. The race is run on turf at Chantilly, north of Paris, and traditionally covers 2,100 metres.
The event was first run in 1836 and has long been one of France’s most important tests for middle-distance Thoroughbreds. Its winners include leading stallions whose later careers influenced international breeding. The race is organized by France Galop and forms part of the European flat-racing season.
The Prix du Jockey Club is distinct from the Poule d’Essai des Poulains, France’s 2,000 Guineas equivalent, which is run over a shorter distance. The Grand Prix de Paris is another major Chantilly race but is not the French Derby.
