What is the name of the forest where the Ents dwell?

The story behind the answer

The Ents dwell in Fangorn Forest, an ancient woodland at the southern end of the Misty Mountains in Middle-earth. The forest is named after Fangorn, the Sindarin name of Treebeard, the oldest and most prominent Ent encountered by Merry and Pippin.

Fangorn is more than a normal forest: it is home to Ents, the sentient tree-shepherds who protect the woodland, as well as Huorns, mysterious tree-like beings with a closer connection to ordinary trees. The Ents gather in the Entmoot, where they decide to march against Saruman after learning how extensively his forces have destroyed trees.

Readers sometimes confuse Fangorn with the Old Forest, which lies near the Shire, or with Mirkwood, the great forest east of the Misty Mountains. Fangorn is especially important because its Ents attack Isengard, helping to destroy Saruman’s power. The Riders of Rohan also call the forest the Entwood.
