What is the name of the first playable female Assassin in the Assassin's Creed series?

The story behind the answer

Aveline de Grandpré is the first playable female Assassin in the Assassin's Creed series.

Aveline is the protagonist of Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, which was originally released for PlayStation Vita in 2012. The story is set in Louisiana between 1765 and 1780, during the period surrounding the end of French rule and the Spanish occupation of New Orleans. Aveline is the daughter of a wealthy French merchant and an African woman, and she fights Templar influence while navigating colonial society.

Liberation gives Aveline multiple outfits, including an Assassin persona, a lady persona, and a slave persona. These disguises affect how she can move through society and interact with different groups, making identity a central gameplay theme.

Evie Frye is the first female protagonist in a mainline game shared with a male protagonist, but she is not the series' first playable female Assassin. That distinction belongs to Aveline.
