Narnia is the fictional world at the center of most stories in C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series. It is a land of talking animals, mythical creatures, kings and queens, and powerful supernatural forces.
Lewis’s world includes locations such as Cair Paravel, Lantern Waste, and the eastern sea. The stories also connect Narnia with other regions and worlds, including our own Earth. Human children from Earth sometimes enter Narnia through magical gateways, and time passes differently there.
Narnia is both the name of the world and the name of its central kingdom or country in much of the series. This overlap can cause confusion when readers use “Narnia” to mean the entire setting or one particular realm. The name itself was inspired by Narni, an Italian town whose Latin name was Narnia.
