Quidditch is the fictional broomstick sport in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world.
Players compete while flying on broomsticks, and matches involve several magical balls. Two teams try to score through three hoops using the Quaffle, while Bludgers interfere with play and a Seeker tries to catch the Golden Snitch.
In the novels, Harry plays as a Seeker for Gryffindor. Catching the Golden Snitch usually ends the match and awards 150 points to the Seeker’s team, although the team with the higher score is not always the one whose Seeker catches it.
Quidditch is a major part of Hogwarts student life, with house teams competing during the school year. It also appears in the wider wizarding world through professional leagues and the Quidditch World Cup. The sport’s name is spelled “Quidditch,” not “Quodditch.”
