Quidditch is the fictional sports game J.K. Rowling created for the Harry Potter series.
The game is played on broomsticks by two teams of seven players. Each team has three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. Chasers try to score through three goal hoops with the Quaffle, while Beaters use bats to redirect Bludgers. The Seeker pursues the Golden Snitch.
In the books, catching the Golden Snitch normally ends the match and awards 150 points, although the team with the higher score wins. Harry plays Seeker for Gryffindor and becomes known for his skill in the position. Quidditch is central to Hogwarts social life and provides several important scenes throughout the series.
The sport inspired real-world adaptations. Muggle quidditch, now often called quadball, developed as a non-magical contact sport played on foot. Its rules and scoring have changed over time, so the real sport should not be confused with the broomstick game in Rowling’s fiction.
