What is the name of the fictional school attended by J.K. Rowling’s character Harry Potter?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Hogwarts is the central school in Rowling’s wizarding world and the main setting for much of the seven-book series. It is a boarding school in Scotland where young witches and wizards study subjects such as Potions, Transfiguration, Charms, and Defence Against the Dark Arts.

The school is divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Students are sorted into houses when they begin, and Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger become members of Gryffindor.

Hogwarts should not be confused with the other magical schools named in the books. Beauxbatons Academy is associated with France, Durmstrang Institute is linked with northern Europe, and Ilvermorny is a North American school introduced in later Wizarding World material.
