What is the name of the fictional planet visited in C.S. Lewis’s second Space Trilogy novel?

The story behind the answer

Perelandra is the fictional planet visited in the second novel of C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy. The book, also known as Voyage to Venus, was published in 1943.

The protagonist is Elwin Ransom, an English academic who travels to Perelandra. There he encounters a world resembling an unfallen Eden and becomes involved in a spiritual and philosophical conflict. The novel develops themes of temptation, freedom, obedience, and the nature of evil.

The trilogy’s planets have several names, which can cause confusion. Malacandra is the setting of Out of the Silent Planet, while Perelandra is identified with Venus. Thulcandra is Lewis’s name for Earth. The third novel, That Hideous Strength, returns to Earth and shifts much of its attention to a sinister modern institution.
