The fictional planet in C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy where Perelandra is set is called Perelandra.
Perelandra is the second novel in Lewis’s Space Trilogy, published in 1943. Its protagonist, Elwin Ransom, travels from Earth to the planet Perelandra, which is also identified with Venus in Lewis’s fictional cosmology. The story presents a newly created world facing a temptation that echoes, but does not simply reproduce, the biblical account of humanity’s fall.
The trilogy begins with Out of the Silent Planet, set largely on Malacandra, Lewis’s name for Mars. Its final volume, That Hideous Strength, returns mainly to Earth, called Thulcandra in the series’ planetary terminology.
The similar names are a frequent source of confusion. Malacandra is the setting of the first novel, while Perelandra is both the title and the central world of the second. Narnia belongs to a separate fantasy series.
