What is the name of the fictional London street where Harry Potter lives with the Dursleys?

The story behind the answer

The fictional London street where Harry Potter lives with the Dursleys is Privet Drive.

Harry’s home is number four, Privet Drive, in the fictional town of Little Whinging, Surrey. He lives there with his aunt Petunia, uncle Vernon, and cousin Dudley before and during much of the early Harry Potter story. The ordinary suburban setting contrasts with the magical world Harry discovers.

Privet Drive is especially important because it is connected to the protection created by Harry’s mother, Lily Potter. By living with his mother’s blood relative, Harry remains protected from Lord Voldemort while he is underage. This magical protection is a major reason Dumbledore insists that Harry return there for part of each summer.

The street should not be confused with Grimmauld Place, the London home used by the Order of the Phoenix. Privet Drive is fictional, although exterior scenes for number four were filmed at a real house in Martins Heron, Bracknell, Berkshire.
