Isla Nublar is the fictional island where Jurassic Park is built in the first Jurassic Park film.
In the story, Isla Nublar lies off Costa Rica and is selected by InGen as the location for John Hammond’s dinosaur resort. The island contains the visitor center, laboratories, paddocks, and other facilities intended to support the park. A tropical setting allows the film to contrast spectacular scenery with the dangers of a tightly controlled but ultimately unstable experiment.
Isla Nublar is distinct from Isla Sorna, the second major island in the franchise. Isla Sorna served as InGen’s Site B, where dinosaurs were bred before being transported elsewhere. Confusing these islands is common because both are fictional Costa Rican locations and both appear in multiple franchise stories.
