What is the name of the fictional Hogwarts textbook credited to Newt Scamander in J.K. Rowling’s books?
Answer
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The fictional Hogwarts textbook credited to Newt Scamander is titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The book is listed as a required school text in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Rowling later published a real charity edition in 2001, presenting it as a textbook borrowed by Harry from the Hogwarts library. The book includes descriptions of magical creatures and humorous handwritten notes attributed to Harry and Ron.
Newt Scamander is the fictional author, and Rowling is the real author of the published companion book. The character later became the protagonist of the Fantastic Beasts film series, which expands his biography beyond the short textbook concept.
The title can refer to three connected things: the fictional textbook, Rowling’s 2001 companion publication, and the film franchise beginning in 2016. The question concerns the book credited within the wizarding world.
