Glome is the fictional country ruled by Orual in C.S. Lewis’s Till We Have Faces. Orual begins the novel as a princess of Glome and later becomes its queen after the death of her father.
The kingdom is located near the fictional land of Essur and is portrayed as a small, ancient monarchy shaped by religious ritual and political fear. Its culture provides the setting for Lewis’s reinterpretation of the Cupid and Psyche myth, while Orual’s rule frames much of the novel’s reflective narrative.
Glome is distinct from the countries in Lewis’s Narnia stories. Archenland and Calormen belong to the world of Narnia, whereas Glome exists in the separate mythic world of Till We Have Faces. This difference is a common source of mix-ups when readers compare Lewis’s fictional kingdoms.
