What is the name of the fictional computer company in The Terminator?

The story behind the answer

Cyberdyne Systems is the fictional computer company in The Terminator.

In the franchise’s original continuity, Cyberdyne Systems develops the technology that eventually leads to Skynet and the Terminator machines. The company’s connection to the future war becomes more prominent in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, where Miles Dyson works on the reverse-engineering project that follows the destruction of the first Terminator.

The name is already associated with the Terminator’s origins in the 1984 film, whose plot identifies the company as part of the machine’s technological history. It later becomes a primary target of Sarah and John Connor’s attempt to prevent Judgment Day.

Cyberdyne Systems is not the same thing as Skynet. Cyberdyne is the corporate developer in the story, while Skynet is the artificial intelligence that becomes self-aware and launches the nuclear attack in the franchise’s main timeline.
