Answer
Manneken Pis
Answer
Manneken Pis
The famous statue of a urinating boy in Brussels is Manneken Pis.
This small bronze fountain sculpture stands in central Brussels at the corner of Rue de l'Étuve and Rue du Chêne. Although the figure is only about 55.5 centimetres tall, Manneken Pis has become one of the best-known symbols of Brussels and Belgium.
A water fountain at the site is documented as early as 1451–1452. The present design was commissioned in 1619 from Brabantine sculptor Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder. The statue has endured thefts and damage, and since 1965 a replica has stood outdoors while the original is kept in the Brussels City Museum.
Visitors often expect a monumental statue, but its small size is part of the joke and charm. It is also regularly dressed in costumes; the collection contains around 1,000 outfits. Brussels has related “peeing” statues too, including Jeanneke Pis, a female counterpart installed in 1987.
