What is the name of the engineer who wears a VISOR on the Enterprise-D?

The story behind the answer

The Enterprise-D engineer who wears a VISOR is Geordi La Forge. Born blind, La Forge uses the fictional device to perceive his surroundings by processing electromagnetic information and transmitting it through interfaces connected near his temples.

LeVar Burton played Geordi throughout all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation and later Star Trek films. Geordi first served as the Enterprise-D’s helmsman in season one, then became chief engineer from season two onward. His engineering expertise, especially his ability to diagnose propulsion, power, and structural problems, made him one of the ship’s indispensable officers.

The VISOR is not simply a pair of futuristic glasses: within Star Trek’s fiction, it scans across portions of the electromagnetic spectrum and sends signals directly to the wearer’s brain. A common mix-up is Data, who is an android and operations officer, or Miles O’Brien, who served as a transporter chief and engineer on other Starfleet assignments. Geordi later uses ocular implants instead of the VISOR in the films.
