What is the name of the Elvish refuge ruled by Elrond in J.R.R. Tolkien’s books?

The story behind the answer

The Elvish refuge ruled by Elrond in J.R.R. Tolkien’s books is Rivendell.

Rivendell, also called Imladris, is a settlement in a hidden valley east of the Misty Mountains. Elrond founded it during the Second Age as a refuge for Elves and their allies. It remains an important center of learning, healing, and historical memory throughout Tolkien’s narratives.

Bilbo visits Rivendell during the events of The Hobbit, where Elrond helps interpret the moon-letters on Thorin’s map. In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo is brought there after being wounded by a Nazgûl. Elrond later hosts the Council of Elrond, which decides that the One Ring must be destroyed.

Rivendell is distinct from Lothlórien, the woodland realm ruled by Galadriel and Celeborn. Valinor is a realm across the sea, while Gondolin was a hidden Elven city of the First Age. Tolkien’s Sindarin name Imladris means “Deeping of the Crevice.”
