What is the name of the Elvish language Tolkien developed for the Noldor?

The story behind the answer

Quenya is the Elvish language Tolkien developed for the Noldor.

Tolkien based Quenya largely on the sound and structure of Finnish, while also drawing on ideas from other languages and his own linguistic invention. In the mythology of Middle-earth, Quenya originated among the Elves and was especially associated with the Noldor, the Elven people who returned from Aman to Middle-earth.

Quenya is not merely a collection of attractive words. Tolkien created its phonology, grammar, vocabulary, and historical relationships, then developed related forms and changes across the imagined history of his languages. This linguistic depth reflects his professional training as a philologist.

Sindarin is the other major Elvish language encountered in The Lord of the Rings and is associated especially with the Sindar and with everyday speech in much of Middle-earth. Telerin is another related language, while Adûnaic is the language of Númenor. These names are therefore not interchangeable, even though Tolkien connected them within a larger language family.
