What is the name of the Elvish language associated with the Noldor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth?

The story behind the answer

The Elvish language associated with the Noldor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is Quenya.

Quenya is one of Tolkien’s constructed languages and is closely associated with the Noldor, the Elves who return from Valinor to Middle-earth. Tolkien developed its grammar, vocabulary, and historical relationships with unusual depth, drawing inspiration particularly from Finnish and other languages.

In the stories, Quenya has an elevated and ceremonial status among many Elves. It is used in names, poems, formal speech, and ancient traditions, while Sindarin becomes the more widely spoken Elvish language in much of Middle-earth during the Third Age.

Quenya and Sindarin are therefore not simply two spellings of the same language. Tolkien treated them as related languages with distinct histories. The names Galadriel, Noldor, and Eärendil are connected with Tolkien’s Elvish linguistic invention, though not every Elvish name is Quenya.
