What is the name of the Earth-like planet in C.S. Lewis’s novel Perelandra?

The story behind the answer

Perelandra is the Earth-like planet in C.S. Lewis’s novel Perelandra.

Published in 1943, Perelandra is the second novel in Lewis’s Space Trilogy. Elwin Ransom travels to the planet, which is also called Perelandra, and encounters an unfallen world whose inhabitants face a temptation resembling the biblical account of humanity’s fall. The planet is often identified with Venus in Lewis’s fictional cosmology, although its geography and biology are radically transformed for the purposes of the story.

Readers can confuse Perelandra with Malacandra, the name Lewis gives to Mars in Out of the Silent Planet. Perelandra is the second major destination in the trilogy, while Malacandra is the first. The third novel, That Hideous Strength, returns to Earth and shifts from interplanetary adventure toward a story about science, power, and social control.
