The Dwarves’ language in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium is Khuzdul. Tolkien created it as the secret language of the Dwarves of Middle-earth.
Khuzdul is associated with the Dwarves’ own name for themselves, Khazâd. Unlike the widely used languages of Elves and Men, it was deliberately kept private, so relatively few Khuzdul words appear in Tolkien’s published narratives.
The best-known examples include “Khazad-dûm,” the Dwarven name for Moria, and the battle cry “Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!” Tolkien designed Khuzdul with a structure influenced by Semitic languages.
Khuzdul is often confused with Quenya or Sindarin. Those are Elvish languages, while Westron is the common speech used by many peoples in The Lord of the Rings.
