Glaurung is the dragon defeated by Túrin in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Children of Húrin.
Glaurung is known as the Father of Dragons and serves Morgoth in the First Age. He is powerful not only because of his physical strength but also because of his ability to deceive and control minds. His actions contribute directly to the tragic fate of Túrin and his family, making him one of the central forces in the story.
Glaurung is often confused with Smaug, the dragon in The Hobbit. Smaug lives in the Third Age and occupies Erebor, while Glaurung belongs to the much earlier First Age. Ancalagon the Black is another First Age dragon, but he is associated with the War of Wrath and is not the dragon killed by Túrin. The Children of Húrin was published in 2007 in an edition prepared by Christopher Tolkien from his father’s writings.
