What is the name of the creek that runs through Augusta National?
Answer
Rae's Creek
Answer
Rae's Creek
The creek that runs through Augusta National is Rae's Creek.
Rae's Creek crosses the southeastern corner of the Augusta National property and is most famously associated with Amen Corner, the course's 11th, 12th and 13th holes. It flows behind the 11th green and in front of the 12th green before continuing near the 13th tee. The creek is a defining hazard because players must negotiate it during some of the most pressure-filled shots at the Masters.
The creek was named after John Rae, a former property owner who died in 1789. Rae's home was historically important because it stood farther up the Savannah River than Fort Augusta and served as a refuge during attacks. The course's Hogan Bridge and Nelson Bridge cross Rae's Creek near the 12th and 13th holes.
A common mix-up is confusing Rae's Creek with the larger Savannah River, which lies nearby but does not run through Augusta National. The course also contains ponds and other water hazards, but Rae's Creek is the signature stream associated with the property.
