Sebastian is the crab who serves as King Triton's adviser in Disney's The Little Mermaid.
Sebastian is a red crab and one of the film's principal supporting characters. Triton assigns him to watch over Ariel, but Sebastian repeatedly finds himself drawn into Ariel's attempts to visit the human world and pursue her own choices.
The character combines comic timing with musical importance. He leads or performs several of the film's best-known songs, including “Under the Sea” and “Kiss the Girl.” Samuel E. Wright provided Sebastian's speaking and singing voice in the 1989 animated film.
Sebastian is sometimes mistaken for Flounder, Ariel's fish companion, or Scuttle, the seagull who claims expertise about human objects. Unlike those friends, Sebastian has an official court role as Triton's adviser and guardian.
