Cogsworth is the castle servant transformed into a mantel clock in Disney's 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast.
Cogsworth serves as the Beast's majordomo and is characterized by his formal manner, punctuality, and frequent attempts to maintain order. His name combines “cog,” a clock mechanism, with “worth,” making it a wordplay-based name suited to his transformed form.
He often argues with Lumière, whose playful and impulsive attitude conflicts with Cogsworth's cautious personality. Their disagreement also supplies much of the servants' comic dialogue while the curse continues.
Cogsworth is voiced by David Ogden Stiers in the 1991 English-language film. The character is sometimes mistaken for Lumière, but Lumière is the candelabra, whereas Cogsworth is the clock.
