What is the name of the cartoon cheetah that serves as the mascot of Cheetos snacks?

The story behind the answer

The cartoon cheetah mascot of Cheetos snacks is named Chester Cheetah.

Chester first appeared in Cheetos television commercials in 1986 and became the brand’s official mascot. He was designed as a sly, smooth-talking, anthropomorphic cheetah whose advertising adventures usually revolved around getting hold of Cheetos. His best-known slogans included “It ain't easy bein' cheesy” and, beginning in 1997, “Dangerously cheesy.”

Chester was not Cheetos’ first mascot. The brand previously used the Cheetos Mouse, an animated character introduced around 1971 and retired around 1979. Chester replaced that character and became much more strongly associated with the product.

Another common mix-up is confusing Chester Cheetah with Tony the Tiger, who promotes Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes, or Toucan Sam, the mascot of Froot Loops. Chester has also appeared in video games, including Chester Cheetah: Too Cool to Fool, released in 1992 for the Sega Genesis and Super NES.
