What is the name of the candy items in Mario Party 8?

The story behind the answer

The candy items in Mario Party 8 are called Candies. They replaced the capsules, also known as orbs, used by the previous three home-console games in the series.

Mario Party 8 introduced Candies as board items in its 2007 Wii release. Each type had a distinct effect, allowing players to influence movement, collect coins, or interfere with opponents. The Twice Candy let a player roll two Dice Blocks, while the Thrice Candy allowed three Dice Blocks, creating opportunities to travel farther in a single turn.

There were 14 Candies in total, and they were distributed through item shops and board spaces. Their effects helped Mario Party 8 take advantage of the Wii Remote’s motion controls and gave players more ways to shape a board’s events beyond simply rolling one die.

A common mix-up is calling them capsules or orbs because those terms were used in Mario Party 5, Mario Party 6, and Mario Party 7. Mario Party 8 changed the naming and presentation to a candy theme. The next main home-console game, Mario Party 9, replaced this item approach with a different system.
