Shark Tank is the United States version of the Dragons' Den business reality-show format.
The American programme features entrepreneurs pitching companies and products to a panel of investors, called sharks, in exchange for a proposed ownership stake. The structure closely matches the international format associated with Dragons' Den: entrepreneurs present a valuation, answer detailed questions, and may negotiate an offer.
Shark Tank premiered in the United States in 2009 on ABC. Mark Burnett developed the American adaptation, and the series became a major platform for consumer products, technology companies, food businesses, and other early-stage ventures.
The programmes are related but do not share exactly the same panel, broadcaster, or title. “Sharks” is the American term for the investors, while “dragons” is used in the British and many other international versions. The Apprentice and The Profit are also business programmes, but they use different formats.
