Shark Tank is the American television adaptation related to Dragon's Den.
Shark Tank uses the same broad international format: entrepreneurs pitch companies or products to a panel of wealthy investors and seek capital in exchange for equity. The American programme uses “sharks” rather than “dragons” for its investors, reflecting its own title and branding while retaining the central negotiation concept.
The series premiered in the United States in 2009 and became a major business-oriented reality programme. Its panel has included investors such as Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin O'Leary, Daymond John, Robert Herjavec and Lori Greiner, although the lineup has changed over time.
Dragon's Den and Shark Tank are not the same programme, and their deals, presenters and investors differ. They are connected because both descend from the international format associated with the Japanese programme Money no Tora. This makes Shark Tank the relevant American counterpart, rather than another US business show.
