Shark Tank is the American business reality television series adapted from the Dragon's Den format.
The programme presents entrepreneurs to a panel of wealthy investors, called sharks, who consider offers of money in exchange for equity or another business arrangement. The American series premiered on ABC in 2009 and developed its own panel, tone and production history.
Both programmes ultimately descend from the Japanese format Money Tigers. Their shared structure includes a presentation, questions about sales and valuation, negotiation and the possibility that an offer may be withdrawn. The names differ because the US version uses “sharks” while the British version uses “dragons.”
Shark Tank should not be confused with a direct continuation of the BBC series. It is a separate national adaptation using the same underlying international format. The answer is the title of the US programme, not the name of an individual investor or the Japanese original.
