What is the name of the biblical book containing the main account of Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

Genesis is the biblical book containing the main account of Noah’s Ark. The story appears primarily in Genesis chapters 6 through 9.

Genesis introduces Noah as a righteous man living in a violent world. God instructs him to build the Ark, preserve his family and animals, and survive the coming Flood. The narrative continues through the Ark’s resting place, the release of the raven and dove, Noah’s sacrifice, and the covenant marked by the rainbow.

The Ark account is part of the early chapters of Genesis, before the stories of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. It is therefore separate from the Exodus narrative, which concerns Moses and the Israelites’ departure from Egypt.

Later biblical books refer to Noah and the Flood, but Genesis supplies the continuous narrative and the Ark’s construction dimensions. The book is called Bereshit in Hebrew, meaning “In the beginning,” after its opening words.
