The BBC business programme in which entrepreneurs pitch ideas to investors called Dragons is Dragons' Den.
The British series is based on the Japanese television format Money Tigers and first became a major international franchise. Entrepreneurs usually present a product, service, or business proposition while requesting a specific amount of money in exchange for a percentage of their company.
The investors question the entrepreneurs about sales, costs, valuation, intellectual property, and future plans. A Dragon may offer all or part of the requested investment, sometimes jointly with another Dragon. Entrepreneurs can accept or reject offers, although an on-screen deal remains subject to due diligence.
The programme is often confused with the American series Shark Tank, which uses a comparable pitch format but has a different title and panel. In Britain, the investors are consistently called Dragons.
