What is the name of the Assassin's Creed protagonist from the Third Crusade?

The story behind the answer

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is the Assassin's Creed protagonist from the Third Crusade.

Altaïr is the central playable character in the original Assassin's Creed, which is set mainly in the Levant during the late twelfth century. He begins as a highly ranked Assassin whose failure during a mission leads to his demotion and a quest for redemption.

His targets and missions take him through historical cities including Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. The game's fictional conflict places Altaïr against Templars while blending real medieval figures and locations with the series' invented mythology.

Altaïr later appears in important sequences of Assassin's Creed Revelations. He is distinct from Desmond Miles, the modern-day character who relives Altaïr's genetic memories through the Animus. The Arabic name Ibn-La'Ahad means “son of no one.”
