Michael Fassbender plays Callum Lynch in the 2016 Assassin’s Creed film.
Callum Lynch is a modern-day descendant of the Assassin Aguilar de Nerha. After being recruited by Abstergo Industries, he is connected to the Animus and forced to relive Aguilar’s memories in fifteenth-century Spain. The modern and historical storylines are linked through the search for the Apple of Eden.
Fassbender also portrays Aguilar in the historical sequences, which can make the two character names easy to confuse. Callum is the film’s present-day protagonist, while Aguilar is his ancestor and the Assassin whose memories he experiences.
The film was directed by Justin Kurzel and released in December 2016. It uses the franchise’s mythology but tells a story separate from the plots of the main video games.
