Al Mualim is the Assassin mentor who trains Altaïr in the first Assassin's Creed.
Al Mualim leads the Assassin bureau at Masyaf and serves as Altaïr's mentor at the beginning of the game. After Altaïr breaks the Brotherhood's rules during a mission, Al Mualim demotes him and assigns a series of targets intended to restore his rank.
The title “Al Mualim” means “the teacher” or “the master,” so it functions as a title as well as a character name. The game presents him as an authority figure who controls the Brotherhood's operations and knowledge from Masyaf.
Players may confuse him with Rashid ad-Din Sinan, the historical leader often associated with the medieval Nizari Ismaili community and the inspiration for the fictional character. Malik Al-Sayf is Altaïr's fellow Assassin, while Abbas Sofian belongs to later historical storylines.
