What is the name of the area where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay meet?

The story behind the answer

The area where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay meet is called the Triple Frontier. It lies around the junction of the Iguazú and Paraná rivers, near Iguazú Falls and the Itaipu hydroelectric plant.

Three prominent cities anchor the region: Puerto Iguazú in Argentina, Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil, and Ciudad del Este in Paraguay. Each country has an obelisk painted in its national colours, and the meeting of the borders has made the area a major tourist destination as well as an important commercial crossroads.

The Triple Frontier is sometimes described more generically as a tri-border area or tripoint. “Three Borders” may sound understandable in a quiz, but it is not the established English name of this particular region. The nearby Tancredo Neves Bridge connects Argentina and Brazil, while the Friendship Bridge connects Brazil and Paraguay. The region is also associated with the Guarani Aquifer, one of South America’s major groundwater systems.
