What Antarctic line is the boundary between the Ross Dependency and Marie Byrd Land?

The story behind the answer

The 150th meridian west is the Antarctic line associated with the boundary between the Ross Dependency and Marie Byrd Land.

A meridian is a line of longitude running from pole to pole. In Antarctica, 150°W forms the eastern limit of New Zealand’s claimed Ross Dependency. Territory west of the meridian is generally treated as part of that dependency, while much of the land farther east is unclaimed by any sovereign state and is commonly described as Marie Byrd Land.

The Ross Dependency is a wedge-shaped sector extending from the South Pole to 60°S, bounded by 160°E and 150°W. Its claim was formally defined by a British Order in Council in 1923 and transferred administratively to New Zealand.

The wording needs Antarctic context: sovereignty claims there are held in abeyance under the Antarctic Treaty System. Also, Marie Byrd Land is not wholly outside the Ross Dependency; its western portion lies within the claimed sector. That is why the 150th meridian is best understood as the dividing line between the Ross Dependency and the unclaimed eastern portion.
