What is the name of the arcade game in which players eat dots while avoiding four colored ghosts?

The story behind the answer

The arcade game in which players eat dots while avoiding four colored ghosts is Pac-Man.

Namco released Pac-Man in Japan in 1980 under the title Puck Man, and Midway distributed it in North America as Pac-Man. The player guides a yellow, circular character through a maze, eating pellets and fruit while avoiding Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. Power pellets temporarily let Pac-Man chase and eat the ghosts.

Pac-Man’s maze has four corner power-pellet locations and tunnels that wrap from one side to the other. The ghosts do not all behave identically: their movement rules and target choices create different forms of pressure. The game’s name was changed for some markets partly because the original title could be vandalized into an obscene word. Pac-Man became a major arcade phenomenon and helped broaden the audience for video games beyond the space-shooter themes common in earlier cabinets.
