What is the name of the Animus company in Assassin’s Creed?

The Animus company in Assassin’s Creed is Abstergo Industries. Abstergo is a powerful modern corporation secretly controlled by the Templars, and it uses the Animus to explore genetic memories inherited by people descended from historical figures. The company presents itself publicly as a broad technology and pharmaceutical enterprise.

In the first game, Desmond Miles is forced to use an Animus at an Abstergo facility so researchers can examine the memories of his ancestor Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad. Later games expand Abstergo’s role through products such as entertainment-based Animus systems and the Helix platform. These developments allow the franchise to connect historical adventures with a continuing modern-day conflict.

Abstergo is not itself the name of the machine. The Animus is the device or system that reconstructs genetic memories, while Abstergo is the corporation operating and commercializing that technology.
