What is the name of the ancient Egyptian region where Bayek begins Assassin's Creed Origins?

The story behind the answer

Bayek begins Assassin's Creed Origins in Siwa, an oasis region of ancient Egypt.

Siwa is the home of Bayek, the game's protagonist, and his wife Aya. The opening chapters establish Bayek as a Medjay, a traditional protector and law-enforcement figure, before his personal quest expands into the creation of the Hidden Ones, the forerunners of the Assassin Brotherhood.

Origins later takes players across a much larger map containing locations such as Alexandria, Memphis, Cyrene, and the Giza plateau. Siwa is therefore easy to confuse with the major cities visited during the wider campaign, but it is the specific region where Bayek's story starts.

The game was released in 2017 and serves as a chronological origin story for the series' Assassin tradition. Its setting during the Ptolemaic period also places it centuries before the medieval era depicted in the first Assassin's Creed.
